SECTION 27. Marriage defined.

Inasmuch as marriage is the legal union of only one man and one woman as husband and wife, no other legal union that is treated as marriage or the substantial equivalent thereof shall be valid or recognized.

  1. No Court nor political subdivision of the State of Florida shall issue any declaration of civil union or marriage. All persons at least eighteen years of age or in cases of emancipated minors may marry whether this is by religious covenant, personal contract or both.
  2. it shall be understood that marriage is a private matter outside the realm of government; individuals who are married may also dissolve their personal contract as they see fit or as an outcome of a civil or in some cases criminal suit; furthermore no religion shall be forced to marry or divorce against its creed.
