ARTICLE II: GENERAL PROVISIONS, New Section.

Catchline: Division of Florida into Additional States

(a) PROPOSED STATES.

(1) For the purposes of this section, the State of Florida shall be divided into the following regions:

 

(I) EAST FLORIDA: the counties of Brevard, Indian River, Lake, Martin, Okeechobee, Orange, Osceola, Saint Lucie, Seminole, and Volusia.

(II) EVERGLADES: the counties of Charlotte, Collier, DeSoto, Glades, Hardee, Hendry, Highlands, Lee, Manatee, and Sarasota.

(III) SOUTH FLORIDA: the counties of Broward, Miami-Dade, Monroe, and Palm Beach.

(IV) WEST FLORIDA: the counties of Citrus, Hernando, Hillsborough, Levy, Marion, Pasco, Pinellas, Polk, and Sumter.

(2) The remaining counties not aforementioned shall remain in the State of Florida.

(b) REGIONAL REFERENDUMS.

(1) At the November 2020 general election, each of the regions named under subsection (a) of this Section shall hold a referendum that shall ask: "Shall (name of proposed state) become a State of the Union?"

(2) If a majority of the voters of any of the proposed States vote "YES", it shall be the duty of the Florida Legislature, in its next ensuing session, to pass legislation confirming the affirmative vote(s) of the proposed State(s).

(3) The confirming legislation that is passed by the Florida Legislature shall be submitted to the Congress and the State of Florida shall petition Congress to lawfully establish the new States.
