LEGISLATIVE GRID LOCK SOLUTION: LINE ITEM BILLS & VOTES

Gridlock could end by creating a legislative system eliminating bills exceeding hundreds or thousands of pages providing establishment legislators with an excuse to vote against any bill introduced by anyone if it’s not favored by the establishment.

A solution to this issue, which the establishment politicians will likely never approve, is to break complex bills into whatever number of single material elements applicable to the topic. For example, everyone touts the concept of selling health insurance across state lines. Excluding boiler plate language necessary for a bill to become law, write a one or two page bill governing that single topic. Only allow amendments to become part of the bill if it is material to the topic and the majority approves the amendment. Then vote on that one legislative bill.

Regarding the “Stand Your Ground” legislation, everyone would agree firing a warning shot is better than shooting the aggressor if possible. Write a page or two addressing that issue only and vote on that issue only, not amending multiple other non-applicable clauses in the law.

Then repeat the process on as many material elements pertaining to the issue as desired. If it’s a hundred or five hundred, no problem.

Such a process denies establishment politicians excuses and political cover. It’s easy for the average American to understand what is being enacted. It streamlines the intentionally complex legislative process. It’s a win/win for the general population and a lose/lose for both GOP and DEM establishment politicians.
