PUB 700774: Unique Symbols for Florida by Loyal Millett

ARTICLE II: GENERAL PROVISIONS, Section 4. State seal and flag.

SECTION 4. State seal and flag.

The design of the great seal and flag of the state shall be prescribed by law.

ARTICLE II: GENERAL PROVISIONS, New Section.

Catchline: Unique Symbols for Florida

(a) REVIEW OF STATE SYMBOLS.

The State of Florida shall grant the children of its elementary schools to review the officially designated symbols of the State, and to petition the Governor and the Legislature to designate new symbols, or to change current symbols.

(b) STATE BIRD.

We, the People of Florida, declare that the mockingbird should no longer be designated the official bird of our State. No less than 4 other States have designated the mockingbird as their state bird, and we wish to have an official bird that is native to Florida and that truly embodies Florida's unique natural beauty.

We, therefore, declare the Roseate Spoonbill to be the official bird of the State of Florida.

(c) STATE FLOWER.

We, the People of Florida, do declare the Ghost Orchid to be the official flower of the State of Florida.

With this new designation, we hope and aim to bring attention and awareness to this endangered flower and its fragile environment.

(d) STATE MOTTOES.

The official motto of the State shall be "In God We Trust".

The official native motto shall be these words spoken by Osceola: "Let our last sleep be in the graves of our native land!" The State shall provide for the publiction of the official native motto in the Seminole languages.

(e) STATE FLAGS.

A new flag for the State of Florida shall be designed and adopted by the vote of the electors of the State no later than March 3, 2020.

A flag for the Governor shall be designed and adopted by the vote of the electors of the State no later than March 3, 2020. This flag shall become the Standard of the Governor.

(f) GREAT SEAL OF THE STATE.

A new great seal for the State of Florida shall be designed and adopted by the vote of the electors of the State no later than March 3, 2020; provided, however, the new great seal shall incorporate the official native motto, written in the Seminole language.
